The Academy, established by Giuseppe Juhar in Rome in 1978, works in the field of music training and education (promoting the Kodály Method, and offering courses and seminars in musical interpretation), but it also performs music (“FESTA MVSICA PRO MVNDO VNO” in Città di Castello, Assisi, Orvieto and Rome, 1979–2002; “Pro Africa” benefit concerts for the Community of Sant’Egidio in Rome; concerts for John Paul II in Castelgandolfo, 1988–2001). Through the “Mundus Cantat” international choral encounters, it also encourages real and concrete ecumenism (“Towards Ecumenism through Music”). The foundation and activities of the Academy continue Juhar’s cultural work to promote the renewal and ecumenical use of the Europe’s largest church with a central plan, Santo Stefano Rotondo on the Caelian Hill in Rome (1960–1968). The Academy’s two slogans reflect its fundamental and ever-current commitments: Europe reunited on its Christian underpinnings and worldwide ecumenism.
